Once a month, the cosmos offers us a divine reset button: the New Moon, a.k.a the universe’s invitation to start fresh.

The Celestial Mechanics: What is a New Moon?
Astronomically, a New Moon occurs when the Moon, in its 28-day orbit around the Earth, lines up between the Earth and the Sun. From our perspective, the Sun illuminates the "far side" of the Moon, leaving the side we see in complete shadow. It is, in effect, an invisible Moon.
Astrologically, this is a Sun-Moon conjunction. The Sun (our consciousness, ego, and vitality) and the Moon (our emotions, instincts, and inner world) are together at the exact same degree of the same zodiac sign. Their energies merge completely. This alignment wipes the slate clean, marking the beginning of a new emotional and energetic cycle.
If the Full Moon is a time of climax and release, the New Moon is the fertile void. Harnessing this energy is about intention, not intense action. You are planting a seed, not harvesting the crop.
This Week’s Main Event: The New Moon at 28° Libra
For the past two years, Libra New Moons have coincided with dramatic Solar Eclipses, tied to the karmic South Node. Eclipses are cosmic agents of chaos and fate; they rip things out of our lives and force sudden, fated changes. They are anything but gentle, particularly for those with sensitive natal chart placements in their path.
Earlier today, October 21, the moon became New at 28 degrees of Libra. This is the one we’ve been waiting for: the first "clean" New Moon in Libra we've experienced since September 25, 2022. Since that time, the South Node of karma and release completed its somewhat rare (happens every ~18.5 years) tour of Libra, having moved on to Virgo this past January. This means the universe is finally handing the pen back to us. Rather than being forced to change, we are being invited to build.
This New Moon is a powerful, conscious, and divinely supported opportunity to redefine our relationships. It's time to set intentions for the partnerships we deserve, free from the karmic baggage of the past. The key is to do so while honoring our individual wounds and resisting the pull of mere emotional comfort, aiming instead for genuine, balanced growth.
The Ruler: Venus in Libra
This New Moon is ruled by Venus, the planet of love, beauty, and harmony. And Venus is currently in Libra, her home sign, where she strong, harmonious, and magnetic. This New Moon is supercharged with grace, diplomacy, and a powerful desire for beauty and partnership. It’s a blessed new beginning for love, art, self-worth, and finance.
Opposite Chiron Rx in Aries
The "we" of this New Moon (the fact it is taking place in Libra, which is hardwired to pursue balance and compromise) is staring down a "me" of sorts, which is Aries. More than that, Chiron – the wounded healer of the zodiac – is in close opposition to the New Moon itself. Chiron in Aries represents the wound of identity, of feeling like we have to fight to exist, or that our needs are invalid. One question that comes to mind: "How can I be a good partner without losing myself?"
Square Jupiter in Cancer
There is a creative tension with Jupiter, the planet of expansion, in the nurturing sign of Cancer. This square creates a pull between our desire for a beautiful, balanced new relationship (Libra) and our comfortable emotional habits or family loyalties (Cancer). Jupiter in Cancer wants more comfort, more security. This aspect warns against emotional indulgence or over-promising just to keep the peace. The invitation is to grow beyond our old emotional patterns to build healthier, more balanced connections.
